The Black Nurses Association of New Mexico and El Paso (BNANMEP) is pleased to announce that the chapter received a $5,000 grant from the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) in May 2026.
The grant will support BNANMEP’s community outreach initiative, “Life-Saving Measures for Underserved Rural Communities in Southwestern New Mexico.” Through this program, the chapter will provide essential emergency-preparedness education and practical, hands-on training to residents of underserved rural communities.
Planned activities include:
- Life-saving skills classes
- Basic Life Support (BLS) training
- Stop the Bleed training
These programs are designed to equip community members with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to respond effectively during life-threatening emergencies while professional assistance is on the way.
This grant reflects BNANMEP’s continuing commitment to health equity, community education, disease and injury prevention, and improved access to life-saving resources. The chapter gratefully acknowledges the National Black Nurses Association for investing in this important initiative and supporting BNANMEP’s efforts to strengthen the health and safety of rural communities throughout Southwestern New Mexico.
